Deirdre DeWald - 5th Grade Teacher

Deirdre comes to St. Patrick’s school with a wide variety of teaching experiences. Her first year of teaching was spent on the Omaha Indian Reservation in Macy, Nebraska. Deirdre taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades at St. Gabriel the Archangel School in Louisville, Kentucky as well as 6th grade for two years at Christ the King in Omaha.

While Deirdre is not a native to Nebraska, she did attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she received her undergraduate degree. In 2001, she completed her Masters degree in reading and writing from the University of Louisville (Louisville, Kentucky). Deirdre feels that literacy is very important and spends a lot of time planning lessons to enhance her student’s appreciation and understanding.

In her free time, Deirdre loves to read, write, cross stitch, scrapbook, and spend time with her husband and daughter, who is a student at St. Patrick's School.

Kim Johnson - 5th Grade Teacher

I received my degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa in December 2004.  Shortly after graduation, I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and started my first teaching position in a Kindergarten classroom.  The next year as a 3rd grade teacher, we were a few short days into the school year and Hurricane Katrina hit.  As challenging as it was, we finished the school year as we worked hard at building relationships as well as learning the curriculum.  I moved to Omaha a year and a half later after substituting near my home town in Clare, Iowa.

From the first time I entered St. Patrick's school, I knew that it would be a great fit for me.  Everyone I met has been wonderful and made me feel at home.  I was so happy to find a caring community that shares my beliefs in education as well as religion, so I am extremely excited to be working at St. Patrick's.

In my free time I like to stay active playing with my golden retriever and playing and watching sports with my husband, Brent, and family.  Go Hawkeyes!!!

Mrs. Joni Powers - 5th Grade Teacher

I began working at St. Patrick’s Catholic School as a full-time Teacher’s Assistant in 2007.  I received my substitute teacher’s license for the state of Nebraska in 2008, and began substituting for all grade levels and subject areas.  I am currently working towards my Nebraska Teacher’s License at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  As a substitute teacher, I get the opportunity to meet all students in our school as well as work with our amazing and talented staff!  My husband and I are blessed with 3 children.

Ms. Kathleen Gottsch - 5th Grade Teacher's Assistant

Kathleen has been a member of St. Pat’s parish since 1978. Being raised here, she was naturally drawn to educating their children at St. Patrick’s. She has two children, Devon and Nolan. They enjoy the nurturing and special way each child is made to feel.

The Gottschs make their living at farming and owning a car wash. Kathleen’s hobbies include horses, decorating, gardening, and pretty much anything she can try to fix or improve. They really enjoy being around their wonderful diverse group of friends.

Kathleen was a stay-at-home mom from 1997 to 2005.  Being given the opportunity to work with the St. Patrick’s children was wonderful. Every day she is greeted with smiles and hugs from the students, and she couldn’t say enough about the supportive staff at St. Patrick’s.
